There is a great deal of research coming out of MIT, University of Wisconsin, the Serious Games Initiative, NESTA Futurelab and other respected institutions extolling the power of video games as learning tools. Unfortunately, the chasm between the education and video game industries is enormous, despite the fact that they both cater to the exact same audience. Educators feel video games are ultra-violent, misogynistic, time-wasters while game publishers feel that attaching the word “education” to any product means instant death in the marketplace.

BrainMeld’s mission is to bridge the gap between these two disparate groups and help them not only recognize the common ground between them, but understand how it can be extremely beneficial to both. BrainMeld will strive to increase teachers’ understanding of video games, both as a medium and an educational tool, and provide the skills and materials they need to put games to work in the classroom today. BrainMeld will help the video game industry understand the learning power of their games and realize that they don't have to risk millions of dollars on new, education-specific products in order to support education and tap into its market.

Is this going to be scary? Because I warn you, I'm easily startled and will scream like a baby.“
